Majid Ahangar is an Iranian percussionist, educator, and music theorist, born in 1988 in Tehran, Iran. He specializes in traditional Persian percussion instruments, particularly the daf and tombak, and has built a career as both a performer and instructor in these disciplines. Ahangar has collaborated with several prominent ensembles and institutions, including the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, the IRIB Traditional Music Ensemble, the Alborz Symphony Orchestra, and groups such as Moshtagh, Foujan, Ghadeh, Iranzamin, and Mahoor. His work reflects a strong commitment to both performance and the advancement of Persian rhythmic traditions. He has released multiple works, including Toloe (Sunrise) (2012), a solo daf album, and Escape from Time (2014), featuring ensemble performances with percussion instruments. In addition to his recordings, he authored the research book The History of Daf (2015), contributing to the academic study of the instrument. His later works include Hamnavā ba Daf (2019), a collaboration with Iranian instruments, and the first volume of a four-part collection titled Ten Pieces for Daf (2020). Through his performances, teachings, and publications, Ahangar continues to play a significant role in preserving and expanding the art of Persian percussion music.
